Zayna is an app that helps customers in cities across Libya discover home kitchens, contact them on WhatsApp, and post requests to receive offers from several kitchens. This policy explains what information Zayna collects, how we use it, and your rights. It also covers the zaynalibya.com website and its early kitchen sign-up form (section 5). By using the app or the website, you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us directly:
- Account: your name, and the email address or phone number you sign up with. Your password is handled by the authentication service and we never see it.
- SMS verification codes: when you sign up or reset your password with a phone number, we send a code through Resala (a Libyan SMS provider). To limit abuse we keep a log of sends that holds a scrambled fingerprint of the number, not the number itself, and delete it after 30 days.
- Profile: phone number (optional) and profile photo.
- City: the city you choose to see kitchens and requests in.
- Kitchens: kitchen name, description, city and area, optional directions the kitchen writes itself, WhatsApp number for orders, logo, photos, products and prices.
- Posted requests: description, quantity, date needed, area, budget and reference photos (optional).
- Offers: the price, message and photos a kitchen sends on a request.
- Reviews: star rating and comment.
- Favorites: kitchens and products you save.
Information we collect automatically:
- Contact log: when you tap the WhatsApp button we record which kitchen and product, and when. Kitchens see counts only (such as "12 contacts this week"), never who contacted them.
- Notifications: in-app notifications, such as a new offer on your request. If you allow alerts, we store your device's notification token to send them; it is deleted when you sign out.
- Error data: crash reports and error logs through Sentry, to fix problems and improve the app.
We don't collect your precise location or payment details, because payment and delivery happen between you and the kitchen outside the app.
2. How We Use Information
- To create and manage your account
- To show kitchens, products and reviews
- To take you to a kitchen's WhatsApp with a ready message
- To let you post a request, receive offers and choose one
- To tell a kitchen how many people contacted it through Zayna
- To send verification codes and password reset messages when you ask
- To send notifications and alerts about your requests, offers and kitchen
- To review content that breaks the rules and protect users: new photos and text are checked automatically (see "Service providers"), and the Zayna team reviews reports
- To diagnose and fix technical problems
3. Who We Share Information With
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only in these cases:
- Posted requests: kitchens don't see who posted a request, only its details.
- When you choose an offer: the chosen kitchen sees your first name. Your phone number reaches it only if you choose to share it by turning on "Allow the kitchen to contact me".
- WhatsApp: tapping the WhatsApp button opens WhatsApp with a ready message, and the conversation is between you and the kitchen inside WhatsApp. We don't see it, and it is covered by WhatsApp's (Meta's) policy.
- Public information: a kitchen's details, products, photos and reviews are visible to everyone using the app. Reviewers appear by first name and last initial only (such as "Sara M."), with how they reached the kitchen ("Chose the kitchen's offer" or "Contacted through Zayna").
- Service providers: we use Supabase (database, authentication and photo storage), Resala (SMS verification codes), Expo's notification service (delivering alerts through Apple and Google), Sentry (error monitoring) and Cloudflare (website hosting) to run the app and the website, and OpenAI's moderation service to check new photos and text automatically for content that breaks the rules. Only the text or photo is sent to OpenAI, without your name, email or account details; under OpenAI's policy, data sent to its API is not used to train its models and may be kept for a limited time for safety. These providers process data on our behalf, and it may be stored on servers outside Libya.
- Legal requirements: when required by law or to protect users' safety.
4. How Long We Keep Data
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account:
- Deleted: your profile and login details, favorites, posted requests and notifications, and, for kitchen accounts, the kitchen profile, its products and photos.
- Kept without any link to you: reviews (the review stays, without a name) and the contact log. Your personal details are removed from them and they can no longer be linked to you.
For protection from abuse:
- Reports and the moderation log: we keep reports and a record of actions taken by the Zayna team, to follow repeated violations and handle appeals. Nobody is told who reported.
- Blocking: your block list is private and the other side isn't told. It is deleted with your account.
- Quarantined photos: a photo caught by the automatic check is moved to a private place only the moderation team can see, and permanently deleted after 90 days unless it is restored.
5. Early Kitchen Sign-up
Before the app launches, kitchens can register through a form on zaynalibya.com.
- What we collect: kitchen name, city and area, the kinds of food the kitchen makes, WhatsApp number, phone type (Android or iPhone), and an optional Gmail address.
- Why: to contact you on WhatsApp about your registration, and to invite you to try the app before and at launch.
- Who sees it: the Zayna team only. It is never published or shared with anyone else.
- Spam protection: we use your IP address only after scrambling it into a fingerprint that changes every day, to limit how often the form can be sent.
- How long we keep it: up to 12 months after the registration was last updated, or less if you ask us to delete it at [email protected].
6. Your Rights
- Access: see your data, requests and reviews in the app.
- Correction: edit your profile and reviews at any time.
- Deletion: customers can delete their account in the app under Profile → Delete account, as described in section 4. Anyone, including kitchen owners, can also ask us to delete their account and data by emailing [email protected] with the email or phone number on the account.
- Contact: for any privacy request or question, email [email protected].
7. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Data travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and login sessions are stored encrypted on your device. Still, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.
8. Children
Zayna is not meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information about them. If you learn that a minor has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time and will change the date at the top when we do. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept it.
